Luca Zidane, goalkeeper for Granada and the Algerian national football team, has suffered fractures to his jaw and chin, ruling him out for the remainder of the La Liga 2 season and significantly jeopardising his chances of featuring in the upcoming World Cup.
The shot-stopper sustained a forceful, accidental collision in the closing stages of his team’s 2-4 defeat at home to Almeria on Sunday at Nuevo Los Carmenes. The impact necessitated his substitution and subsequent evacuation to a medical facility.
Granada confirmed on Monday that « medical tests carried out on Luca Zidane, following his concussion, reveal that the goalkeeper also suffers from fractures to his jaw and chin. »
« The player, in conjunction with Granada’s medical services, will decide on the course of treatment for his injury in the coming hours, » added the Andalusian club.
This injury means Luca Zidane will miss the rest of the season with Granada in La Liga 2 and casts serious doubt over his participation in the upcoming World Cup with Algeria.
Luca Zidane has been the first-choice goalkeeper for the African nation throughout their qualification campaign for the tournament and remains a key figure for the North American finals next summer.
